Pfft. At least Gran Turismo 7 had much of its trailer show some gameplay. This feels like something Turn10 had to throw together, and it doesn’t help that the car they used for most of the teaser isn’t actually a fit for the IMSA number markings they slapped on it (an Apollo IE that’s both in DP and GT? Why?). Could have been slightly more hyped if it had the new Mazda and/or Cadillac DPi.
Related: with ray-tracing being a key feature, I’m curious as to which dev can try ray-traced heat values. Like, if dynamic weather and time is a feature, I want to see them use the sun to the max and have it influence air and tarmac temperatures in real time, complete with cloud cover.

Let me know when they show actual gameplay footage.

Can we get a racing game where spectators and environments look as good as the cars?

I’d much rather play a racing game that is optimized for what I’m looking at 95% of the time I’m playing it : the track ahead, my car’s interior, and the cars around me.

If you would have shown this to 17 year old me, (when Forza 1 was out) I would have pooped my pants. But is it just me, or are the graphics advancements being made today way more incremental than they used to be?

I just bought a used PS4 yesterday and now I need to figure out a good, inexpensive steering wheel. I have about no video game experience (my folks wouldn’t give me one as a kid, but a BB gun was okay) and driving in these games is hard as hell with the controller.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I think they are adding some stuff like that.
Confirmed features for Forza 8
New tire pressure model
New heat interaction with tire pressure
Dynamic track temperatures
Rubber in on tracks
New atmosphere pressure system, affecting air density, dynamics, and power
New suspension system with new modeling

You’re not wrong.
A lot of the improvements being made now are certainly appreciated (like 4K and/or 60FPS gameplay, stupid-fast load times, ray tracing, etc.), but it’s pretty difficult for those things
to be nearly as flashy as some of the jumps made by previous generations of gaming hardware.

From what I can tell, it seems like games are much more dense than they used to be. More trees, more interaction with objects, etc.
Tough with a driving game based on (kinda) realism.

I get that, but the items you’re talking about have been pretty much 9.5/10 for the last 5 years.

And now the next big thing to optimize for is VR. Which, again, once the track/car interior/other cars on track look great in VR, they can devote more resources to the surrounding environment.
I really can’t overstate just how big VR is for driving games like GT and Forza. I’ve gotten a taste of it with the pared-down VR mode in GT Sport, and I desperately want a Gran Turismo with VR fully integrated throughout, including online racing.

Logitech G29 is definitely the best budget FFB wheel around. I used one for a few years before its table mount broke and I upgraded to a pricier Fanatec unit.

If $400 is the budget solution I’ll just use the controller.

It’s priced around $250 pretty often on Amazon. Just gotta keep an eye on the price for a sale. The coronavirus situation might be driving up demand, though: https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B00Z0UWWYC

That’s cool and all, but can we go back to the old Forza “pick your starter econobox and upgrade it until you can afford other stuff” model. I like the lower tier races better than the high-end stuff.
Also, bring back open rule sets. I miss being able to bring bonkers stuff into races because the rules were like “hatchbacks under 250 horsepower” and I could bring a 249 hp Civic on massive slicks and full aero in.

You used to be able to find them for $200 used, but sim-racing gear has tripled in price since the ‘rona came round. (If you look on Ebay, a used G29 w/shifter went for $750 in May. Used, and shipping was $50 extra!)
Wait until Black Friday, demand should be back down, and supply should be way up. I hope.

The coronavirus situation has jacked prices way up, once everything goes back to some level of normal they will return to their normal $250 price.

Microsoft has already said the Xbox Series X will not be getting a VR solution so unless Turn 10 want to give the PC version something extra over the console version Forza won't be getting official VR support.

I don’t see VR really taking off for Forza. The buy-in is way too high. You already need a wheel. So now you’re in for a pricey wheel and an even more pricey headset. What is this? Like 0.05% of buyers?
